History of our firm “AHMED HOSSAIN ARMS CO.”:

The firm “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.” was founded by Ahmed Hossain, Grandfather of the present owner of this firm, Tanveer Hossain, in the year 1937 at Mitford, Dhaka, Bangladesh, after obtaining License & Permission from the British Government. At that time, Bangladesh was a colony of the British Government and this firm was the pioneer in the Arms-Ammunition business in Bangladesh. After the death of Ahmed Hossain, this firm’s ownership was transferred to his son, Tozammal Hossain, who led this firm until the year 1989. Tozammal Hossain shifted this firm from Mitford to 69, Baitul Mukarram Market, (Ground floor) Dhaka in the year 1962. At that time Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan, under the name of East Pakistan and the Baitul Mukarram Market was then just started by the Pakistan Government. Since 1962, to till now, this firm is still situated in the same place at Baitul Mukarram Market (Ground floor) and continues to provide all types of support to all Bangladeshi License holders regarding Arms & Ammunitions requirements and repairing. After the death of Tozammal Hossain, in 1989, this firm’s ownership was transferred to his wife Dine Ara Begum, who led this firm from 1989 to 2007.

Then in 2007 this firm’s ownership was transferred to Tanveer Hossain, grandson of Ahmed Hossain and son of Tozammal Hossain and Dine Ara Begum, after he completed his Post Graduation in Accounting, from the University of Dhaka. He is now successfully leading this firm with his leadership and vision, to create a firm, with greater growth potential and strong market presence.

Evolution of Arms & Ammunition Import in Bangladesh and our Firm’s Milestone in the Import of Arms & Ammunition in Bangladesh:

Our firm did a large volume of Import of Arms & Ammunition from 1937 to 1971.

At that time our firm “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.” was the agent of many world renowned companies like Eley (England), Webley & Scott (England), Stevens (USA), BSA (England), Astra (Spain), Miroku (Japan), W.W.Greener (England), Sellior & Bellot (Czeck), Brono (Czeck), etc. However, after the Liberation War of Bangladesh, in 1971, when Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan, the Bangladesh Government suddenly restricted all Arms-Ammunition Dealers, to import all types of Arms & Ammunitions, for the private sector. Bangladesh Government then only allowed T.C.B (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh), a Bangladesh Government owned organization, to import Arms & Ammunition, for all Arms-Ammunition License holders of Bangladesh, from the year 1971 to 2007.

At that time (1971), there were about 30 Arms & Ammunition Dealers in Bangladesh. From 1971 to 2007, all Arms & Ammunition Dealers of Bangladesh could only sell & purchase “old used” Arms (which were imported before 1971) to their customers. Due to the lack of new Imported Arms & Ammunitions, there was scarcity of both new and old Arms & Ammunitions. Despite the great demand for Arms & Ammunitions, most of dealers could not meet the requirements and needs of their customers, because of the lack of stock of both old and new arms & ammunitions. This resulted in many Arms Dealers in suffering substantial losses and many had to close down their Show-rooms and businesses. Given the direness of this situation, Arms Dealers of Bangladesh requested Bangladesh Government, many times, to allow them to import, but it was to no avail.

Even at that time, T.C.B (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, a Govt. owned organization) did not provide much support to the Arms-Ammunition Dealers of Bangladesh, That time, T.C.B only provided few Arms-Ammunitions to the Dealers and directly retailed their Imported Arms-Ammunition to the general public of Bangladesh. This was a grave and serious crisis faced by the Arms Dealers of Bangladesh, as there was no stock of Arms-Ammunition (both new & old), which eventually meant no sales, no revenue, no business. From, 1971 to 2007, so there was a black cloud hovering over the Arms & Ammunition Dealers of Bangladesh and it meant the end of many Arms Dealers Business. In response to this situation and an urgency to save this industry, the present proprietor of “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.” Tanveer Hossain, applied to the Home Ministry of Bangladesh, in the year 1990, to get permission to import Arms & Ammunition, for all Arms License holders of Bangladesh, for their personal security.

From 1990 to 2007, Tanveer Hossain, continuously, for 18 consecutive years, with utmost determination, tried his best to get permission, to import Arms & Ammunitions for Arms License holders of Bangladesh. Every year (From 1990 to 2007) he applied for permission, to import Arms & Ammunition, to the Ministry of Home and every year he had to go through a process of dialogue and negotiations, with the Ministry of Home of Bangladesh, NSI (National Security & Intelligence) of Bangladesh, DGFI (Director General of Force Intelligence) of Bangladesh and SB (Special Police Branch) of Bangladesh. After that, even though every time, getting positive clearances about his firm, regarding Import of Arms & Ammunition, from these 03 very powerful Intelligence organizations of Bangladesh namely, the NSI (National Security & Intelligence) of Bangladesh, DGFI (Director General of Force Intelligence) of Bangladesh and SB (Special Police Branch) of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Home did not allow this firm to import Arms & Ammunition in Bangladesh (From 1990 to 2007). Their (Home Ministry) stance being that, the Bangladesh Government already had T.C.B (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) and Shooting Federation, to import Arms & Ammunition, for all the Arms License holders of Bangladesh, so there is no need to allow other Arms Dealers of Bangladesh, to provide import permission of Arms & Ammunition. This negative response did not discourage Tanveer Hossain.

With hope and patience, he kept on applying to the Home Ministry of Bangladesh, continuously, for 18 consecutive years (From 1990 to 2007).

Lastly in the year 2008, due to Tanveer Hossain’s continuous consecutive 18 years effort, Home Ministry of Bangladesh (After the year 1971, after 37 years of Bangladesh Independency) finally approved his firm “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.” to be the first, to get permission, to import Arms & Ammunitions, for the personal Arms License holders of Bangladesh. This is a major milestone and breakthrough by our firm and also for all Arms-Ammunition Dealers of Bangladesh. In terms of his this contribution, in the industry of Arms-Ammunition Business of Bangladesh, “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.’s” name will always shine like a Star.

After giving permission our firm “Ahmed Hossain Arms Co.” to import Arms & Ammunition in Bangladesh, for the personal Arms License Holders (after the year 2008), Home Ministry of Bangladesh, started allowing other few Arms-Ammunition Dealers (Now around 13, out of around 84 Arms & Ammunition Dealers of Bangladesh) of Bangladesh, to import Arms & Ammunitions, for the private sector.
